| South Sea white pearls are cultured in
warmer climates, in saltwater oceans, primarily off the
coast of Australia. The mollusc Pinctada Maxima is a
large oyster and is capable of producing pearls from 10
millimeters to 20 millimeters. Over 16mm is considered
very rare, and large. The nucleation process is the same
as the Akoya oyster, including the origin of the nucleus.
